2008: Tropical Storm Alma

Alma was the first tropical storm on record to strike Pacific coast of Nicaragua. In Costa Rica, heavy rainfall caused flooding and landslides, leaving at least 42,000 people without power. Three people were killed in Nicaragua, one from drowning and two others from electrocution.  Damage was estimated at $33 million (USD).

2005: Hurricane Beta

Hurricane Beta was a compact and intense tropical cyclone that impacted areas around the southwestern Caribbean Sea in late October 2005. At 12:00 UTC, October 30, Beta made landfall in central Nicaragua with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph (170 km/h).

1996: Hurricane Cesar-Douglas

Hurricane Cesar was a moisture-laden tropical cyclone that dropped heavy rains along its path through the southern Caribbean Sea and Central America. Damage was moderate to extreme due to mudslides and flooding, and over 65 people were killed.

1993: Tropical Storm Bret

When Tropical Storm Bret crossed the Central America, it brought heavy rainfall with fairly strong wind gusts. Because of this, severe mudslides were seen.

1988: Hurricane Joan-Miriam

Most of the destruction was in Nicaragua. Throughout the country, 148 people perished, 184 were badly hurt, and 100 were unaccounted for. Roughly 23,300 homes were destroyed, with 6,000 being damaged.
